Why do people leave their roles?
“I don't know who you are. I don't know what you want. If you are looking for ransom, I can tell you I don't have money, but what I do have are a very particular set of skills. Skills I have acquired over a very long career. Skills that make me a nightmare for people like you. If you let my daughter go now that'll be the end of it. I will not look for you, I will not pursue you, but if you don't, I will look for you, I will find you and I will kill you…”
Liam Neeson knew he had a particular set of skills – and luckily for his daughter, and us the viewing public, over a series of ‘Taken’ films he had the opportunity to use them.
Have you acquired a particular set of skills over your career?
Do you feel that you have the opportunity to use your skills in your current role?
Could your skills, if utilised correctly, be your competitor’s nightmare?
Why do you think most people leave their job? If I told you it wasn’t because of money, what would you think?
Like Liam, you might sometimes feel that you don’t have enough money for ransom payments, but as he demonstrated, sometimes your skillset - and how it is utilised - is much more valuable.
31% of people that leave jobs do so because of a lack of opportunity to use their skills and abilities.
Think about that - nearly a third of all people who leave jobs do so because they have skills and abilities that their current employer is not utilising….Now that would really make Liam mad.
Only 6% of people actually leave a job for a higher salary or financial ability – the full breakdown is:
